Nick Smouse is a rocket scientist and the father of Jay Smouse in the town of Odyssey. He works in a high-security office, complete with a voice-locked door. Jay often worries that he can never measure up to his brilliant parents, but Nick is warmer and more attentive than his son assumes. When Jay schemed to delete an embarrassing test-score email from that office, Nick knew about the plan all along and forgave him. He once bought a twelve-dollar replica baseball card simply to start a collection the two of them could share. And during a family vacation in New Zealand, he flew in overnight just to cheer Jay's wild Highland dance, telling him, "I wish I was more like you."
