Detective Pat Ethan

Detective Pat Ethan is a police detective in Odyssey and a specialist in blind witnesses. Patient and methodical, he helps witnesses who cannot see build a "sound picture" of a crime from the noises, smells, and sensations they remember. He works alongside Captain Quinn and his officers. His gifts were tested when two thieves robbed Holstein's Books and kidnapped Jenny Roberts, a blind girl they assumed had noticed nothing. Ethan guided Jenny through her memories of the ride and the hideout. He matched her clues - a slow freight train, a rattling pneumatic chisel, concrete dust on a stolen car - to a demolition site at an old ironworks. He also worked with Eugene Meltsner, whose stolen car and vanished computer files tied the crimes together. Ethan pairs careful deduction with real respect for what his witnesses perceive.
