Wes Chester

Wes Chester is Matt Cartwood's loyal sidekick in a western version of Jesus' parable about the wicked tenants. He helps Matt oversee the South Spoon Ranch before it is leased to three dangerous strangers. When the tenants refuse to pay, they mistreat or kill every messenger sent to collect what they owe. Wes eventually leads a group of cowboys against them, but the attempt leaves him injured in a hospital bed watching soap operas. His failure shows how completely the tenants reject their owner's rightful authority. The comic western setting makes Wes an amusing companion, yet his loyalty and suffering help illustrate the serious cost of resisting every warning and attacking those who come in the owner's name.
