Terence Buganville

Terence Buganville is a man from Papua New Guinea whose childhood rescue brings him to Odyssey fifty years later. He carries an old photograph and deep gratitude for Joe Finneman, the American soldier who saved him and other hidden children during World War II. Joe remembers himself as a deserter who twice considered abandoning the children, but Terence remembers the man who turned back. Joe fought off an enemy soldier, led them to safety, and was badly wounded doing it. Terence's visit forces that buried event into the open and gives Joe a different measure of courage. Rather than denying Joe's fear, he honors the choice that overcame it. His gratitude helps a shame-filled veteran accept that doing the right thing when it mattered was worthy of remembrance.
