Pontius Pilate

Pontius Pilate is the Roman governor of Judaea, a figure from the most important week in history whom young visitors to Whit's End encounter through the Imagination Station. Travelers who ride the machine back to Jerusalem find him at the center of the trial of Jesus. His wife, Claudia, feels sure the crowd will ask him to free Jesus rather than a murderer. Instead the crowd shouts for Barabbas, and Pilate washes his hands of the innocent man's fate. He is not a patient ruler. When Digger Digwillow told the governor off, Pilate had him thrown into a prison cell beside Barabbas himself. Kelly likewise followed the condemned Jesus into Pilate's palace, warning anyone who would listen, but no one could stop what was coming.
