Noah
Noah is the man God chose to build an ark and save his family from the great flood. He belongs to the distant biblical past, and in Odyssey his story lives on as a lesson in faith. Whit retells it to Jack and Lucy at Whit's End as his answer to what faith really means. As Whit tells it, Noah was four hundred and eighty years old when he received building plans from a God he had never seen. He then hammered away at the enormous boat for a hundred and twenty years while his neighbors laughed. Along the way he dealt with a flustered wife, a demand for a boat permit, a grumpy union boss, and a yard overflowing with animals. His patient obedience was rewarded with dry ground and a rainbow promise.
