Isaac was the son of Abraham and the father of twin sons Jacob and Esau. As a boy, he climbed a mountain beside Abraham carrying wood for a sacrifice, unaware that his father had been commanded to offer him. God provided another sacrifice instead. Years later, Isaac became an aging and blind father whose household was divided by rivalry. Esau traded his birthright to Jacob for stew, and Jacob later disguised himself with goatskins to receive the blessing Isaac intended for Esau. Deceived by one son and unable to calm the other's fury, Isaac stood at the center of a painful family conflict. His life joined God's promises to Abraham with the troubled generation that followed.
