King Ahab
Ahab was a king of ancient Israel and the husband of Queen Jezebel. He ruled during a terrible drought that lasted three years, a judgment tied to his kingdom's worship of the false god Baal. His chief opponent was the prophet Elijah, who came to face him before God brought back the rain. Elijah challenged the king to a contest on Mount Carmel - two altars, two bulls, and no torch, with the god who answered by fire proven true. Baal's priests shouted in vain, but fire from heaven consumed Elijah's soaked altar, and the people turned back to the Lord. Ahab and Jezebel also seized a vineyard from an innocent man, a crime the prophet exposed.
