There are several things here that may be considered goofs.

First, over 10 years ago, Bill retired to spend time with his grandchildren. Now, he's got a daughter approaching college.

Second, is the way Bill acted. In past episodes he's level-headed--here he's not. He's sympathetic to Tom and Whit and the gang in the past--even going to bat for Tom against Blackgaard on the phone--here he's suing Tom for a lot of money.

Lastly is the road. Tom's land is protected by the state, and has been for a while. There wouldn't have been a vote to put a road through his land.

Two things:

1) It is entirely likely to have grandchildren and a 10-year old daughter simultaneously. I am the oldest of 5 children, and there's a 11 year gap between myself and my youngest sister. And there's a 13 year gap between my husband and his next youngest brother. (The last 3 of his siblings are from his mom's second marriage. That's why there's such a big age difference.)

2) The earth is not a perfect sphere. It is, in fact, an oblate spheroid (i.e. slightly distorted at either end due to gravity and the earth's rotation, making it oval-shaped). And a scientific mind like Eugene's would in fact know this. This is why it is mentioned as being oval shaped.

In response to Johnathan the road Bill is refering to is the one Glossman wanted to build right when the landmark was discovered by Mr Chatman.

The writers decieded to link the 2 Jenkins together but now regret it. Yes the definatly didn't think that Bill Jenkins was already a granfather over 10 years a go and now has a teeenage daughter. Although it is possible somebody could have a child really late it's not likely.
