It's Thanksgiving and Whit, Tom, Agnes, June, Connie, and Rodney (not to be confused with Rodney Rathbone) are gathered at Whit's End to celebrate. Whit asks everyone to participate in a family tradition his wife had started: place a kernel of corn into a basket and name something for which you are thankful.

When it's Whit's turn, he gives thanks for his stepmother, Fiona Donneral, and tells the story that led to his conversion. After Whit's mother died when he was five, his father remarried. Whit wasn't particularly receptive to Fiona, but over time he warmed up to her.

One day as Whit and Fiona were horseback riding, Fiona had a tragic accident that left her blind. Amazingly, as time goes on, the person who actually takes Fiona's blindness the hardest is Whit. When Fiona gently questions Whit about what is bothering him, she finds he's unhappy because she's still joyful although she's blind. Whit still feels bitterness over his mother's death, so he can't understand Fiona's acceptance of hardship in her own life.

Fiona explains the life-changing power of Jesus Christ to Whit who asks her to pray with him to accept Jesus. So that is why Whit is especially thankful for Fiona. It was she who first opened his spiritual eyes to the truth and was thus responsible for his salvation.

Agnes Riley is heard for the first time on this episode. I was originally going to point out in this review that Agnes is the only person who doesn't get to tell something for which she's thankful. However, a scene that was cut from this show was recently aired with "The Pact I". In it, Agnes explains how she is thankful for a broken leg because it resulted in her meeting Tom. Not until "The Other Woman" do we hear from her again and discover that she has mental problems. When she begins recovering in "Box of Miracles", Agnes recalls having Thanksgiving at Whit's End and Whit's story about his stepmother. That's a span of about 450 episodes.

Although this isn't the first time we've heard scenes from Whit's past, this is the first recollection of his childhood. We get to hear his father and stepmother, but strangely there's no mention of Whit's sister, although he supposedly has one which I believe is confirmed by "My Brother's Keeper".

Whit's story about Fiona is very touching but kind of sad. This in conjunction with "Karen" which is on the other side of the tape makes for a very emotional combination. But this is also an important episode as it reveals how Odyssey's main character became a Christian.
