Yosef
Yosef is an elder of the Ashanti tribe who has lived as a bitter outcast for twenty years. Believed to have drowned long ago, he captures Eugene and Katrina in the jungle and tries to trade Eugene for Leonard Meltsner. His knowledge of the region leads the prisoners toward the Wolof gold mines, where the search for Eugene's parents takes an unexpected turn. Yosef has betrayed his people in the past, but he is not beyond courage or change. When Gobir's dangerous deception puts his own son at risk, Yosef is the only person able to stop the trap in time. His brave action opens the way for truth, confession, and his return home.
