Dr. William Leslie

Dr. William Leslie was a medical missionary who devoted his life to serving people in the Congo. He protected a boy named Patrice from soldiers, taught him to read the Bible, and nursed him through smallpox before contracting the disease himself. Leslie later traveled with his family to Vanga Village, where the chief rejected their message and threatened them. Financial support disappeared, and Leslie died believing his years of labor had failed. Decades later, eight thriving churches stood in the region, and Patrice's grandson still treasured Leslie's gold lettered Bible.
