Sandra Underwood

Sandra Underwood is a young violinist who has spent a year preparing for the solo in Odyssey's children's Christmas concert. When director Dan Bryant gives the part to Whit's visiting granddaughter Jenny, Sandra feels that her hard work has been dismissed. Her mother demands another tryout, while Sandra and a friend taunt and threaten Jenny in town. Sandra performs beautifully when the new audition is held. Jenny, recognizing how much the opportunity means to her, deliberately steps aside rather than display her own greater skill. The unexpected kindness changes Sandra's attitude. She apologizes, and the two girls begin a new friendship. Sandra's experience shows how generosity can quiet jealousy more effectively than competition or retaliation.
