Salome

Salome was the proud young daughter of Herodias and a gifted dancer in King Herod's palace. After breaking a valuable vase, she was forbidden to perform at the king's birthday celebration. Aubrey accepted punishment for the accident so Salome could dance and hoped the favor would provide a chance to ask for John the Baptist's freedom. Her performance delighted Herod so much that he publicly promised her anything she requested. Salome briefly liked the idea of freeing John, but her mother threatened to end her dancing unless she demanded his head instead. Salome obeyed Herodias, and the prophet was executed. Her choice shows how pride, pressure, and desire for approval can make another person's courage easy to betray.
