Mrs. Meido

Mrs. Meido is the nanny who raised Suzu Rydell, and a figure from Morrie Rydell's past as well. Behind her caretaker's role she is secretly a spy. In Japan she swiped small figurines from embassy visitors, and one of them, a little Canadian maple leaf, hid a microfiche packed with stolen secrets. She is a woman of hidden identities. Even John Whittaker, an old friend of the Rydell children's father, knows her by another name entirely. Though her days in the Rydell household are behind her, she stays quietly in touch with Suzu, promising the girl, "Be patient. I'll see you soon." Her double life ultimately sets her against Whit, the young detective Emily Jones, and the very children she once cared for.
