Lochrue

Lochrue is a powerful druid who serves the Irish king and opposes Patrick's Christian mission. He helped send raiders to Britain, where Patrick was captured and carried into slavery. Years later, when Patrick returned to preach in Ireland, Lochrue tried to stop him through fear, soldiers, religious authority, and attempted murder. His ambush failed, and Patrick's Easter fire openly challenged the druids' control. At the king's banquet, Lochrue arranged a poisoned cup for Patrick, but his panic when challenged to drink from it exposed the scheme. Proud, manipulative, and threatened by a faith he cannot control, Lochrue represents the spiritual and political resistance Patrick faces while bringing his message to Ireland.
