Joe Rogers
Joe Rogers is Nicky's father and the parent of a new baby girl named Shannon. Before the birth, he promises Nicky a pair of boots, but the family's attention shifts and the boots do not arrive. Nicky becomes jealous of the baby, reclaims old toys, and hides in the doghouse because he believes Shannon has replaced him. Joe follows him there, listens, and admits that he failed to keep the promise. Sitting beside his son, he explains that a parent's heart has room to love more than one child and asks Nicky's forgiveness. Gentle and honest, Joe helps his son welcome a sister by addressing both the jealousy and the broken promise instead of simply demanding better behavior.
