Jeremiah

Jeremiah was a prophet in ancient Judah who delivered God's warnings even when almost nobody wanted to listen. For forty years he told Jerusalem that Babylon would destroy the city unless the people turned back to God. He endured mockery, beatings, arrest, and imprisonment in a muddy cistern. One king cut up Jeremiah's written message and burned it piece by piece, but the prophet continued speaking. During the invasion, Jeremiah bought a field that seemed worthless because God had promised the exiles would one day return. Jerusalem fell as he had warned, and decades later the people came home to rebuild. Persistent and obedient, Jeremiah measured faithfulness by delivering God's message, not by receiving quick results or public approval.
