James Churchill

James Churchill is a man raised with deep affection by Balthazar Tolliver, who treated him like a son. After Balthazar's death, James receives a music-box cylinder and a letter containing a coded mystery meant to be solved with Quinton Tolliver. Because the two men do not get along, James initially pretends to be Balthazar's son rather than explain their difficult history. He works with Jason Whittaker to decode Morse code, locate hidden books, and follow clues through Odyssey. James values Balthazar's love and the possibility of family far more than money. Humble, persistent, and sentimental, he searches not merely for an inheritance but for the meaning behind one father's final effort to reconcile people he cared about.
