Hector Mulligan

Hector Mulligan is a small Colombian boy newly welcomed into the Mulligan family. On his second day at school, he knocks down Stuart after the bully crushes his sandwich and mocks his size, earning a suspension. The same small stature later becomes exactly what a crisis requires. When Chester the baby kangaroo collapses deep inside a storm drain, Hector is the only person small enough to crawl through and rescue him. The experience helps Hector see that painful circumstances can be woven into something good. Brave, quick-tempered, and still adjusting to a new home, he must learn when strength should defend and when anger causes harm. His rescue gives the struggling family a reason for gratitude in the middle of money problems, conflict, and chaos.
