Harvey

Harvey is a grouchy boy Danny Schmidt meets while playing at the hospital. When Danny proudly talks about becoming a big brother, Harvey warns that babies take bedrooms, toys, and all of their parents' attention. His bitter predictions feed Danny's first feelings of jealousy toward the expected child. After Danny's mother loses the baby, those careless words become part of the guilt Danny carries, convincing him that his private wish caused the death. Harvey does not know the harm his teasing creates, but his influence shows how quickly fear can replace excitement. Whit later helps Danny understand that the tragedy was not his fault and that love for his little sister remains real.
