Haman
Haman was the proud prime minister of Persia, second in authority only to King Xerxes. Enraged when Mordecai refused to bow before him, Haman turned a personal insult into a plan for mass murder. He deceived the king into signing an unchangeable decree that ordered every Jewish person in the empire killed. Certain of his success, Haman built a towering gallows for Mordecai. Instead, a sleepless king discovered that Mordecai had once saved his life and ordered Haman to honor the very man he hated. Queen Esther then exposed Haman's scheme at her banquet. The prime minister was executed on his own gallows, while Mordecai received his position. Haman's downfall grew from pride, hatred, and the belief that power made him untouchable.
