Goliath
Goliath is not a citizen of Odyssey but a figure from ancient history whom the town's children encounter through John Avery Whittaker's inventions at Whit's End, including the Imagination Station and the environment enhancer. He was a giant of the Philistine army who defied the armies of the living God. For forty days he stood in the Valley of Elah and dared any man in Israel's army to come out and fight him. No soldier would. The challenge was finally answered by David, a shepherd boy who turned down King Saul's armor and faced him with a staff, a sling, and a few small stones. A single stone brought the giant crashing to the ground, and the Philistines ran for their lives. Visitors such as Connie Kendall and Cooper Calhoun have witnessed his defeat firsthand.
