Bryson Baird is an engineer and dam worker helping protect Odyssey during Superstorm Elpis. Bryson later radios that water is spraying through a growing hole in the dam. After crews pour concrete and reboot the damaged controls, underwater cameras reveal something blocking the relief valves. Bryson insists on diving with Eugene and Wooton to identify the obstruction. In the murky water they find an entire car wedged against the mechanism. Alert, practical, and willing to take personal risk, Bryson supplies crucial information at every stage of the emergency. His work helps leaders evacuate residents before the lake escapes through an abandoned coal mine and floods neighboring Odenton.
