Bruno Beltser
Bruno Beltser is a competitive baseball player for the Crosstown Tigers and a sharp-tongued opponent of the Odyssey Coyotes. He taunts Sam Johnson about his poor hitting and fielding, making the discouraged boy believe he is responsible for every loss. When Sam begins hitting home runs with an old bat he considers lucky, Bruno recognizes how much confidence Sam has placed in it. Before the championship game, he steals the bat and leaves Sam convinced he cannot succeed without it. Bruno's scheme nearly works, but it also forces Sam to discover that practice built his ability. The rival's attempt at sabotage cannot take away the skill Sam has earned.
