Ariella was the young daughter of Shoshanna, a Jewish mother imprisoned inside the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. Shoshanna initially could not bear to send her away. After Irena Sendler learned the terrible destination of the deportation trains, Shoshanna hid Ariella beneath the floorboards and entrusted her rescue to Irena. Ariella waited for Irena's voice, then escaped through the dark sewers with Irena and Stefan. She bravely followed their instructions when a suspicious guard challenged them. Once she reached safety with nuns in the countryside, Ariella feared she would be alone. Irena assured her that God would always remain with her.
