Antoninus

Antoninus was the young son of Julius, the Roman centurion charged with transporting the apostle Paul to Rome. Although Julius ordered Christian teaching kept from him, Antoninus listened closely to Luke and Paul during their dangerous voyage. In a violent storm, he trusted Paul's promise that every person aboard would survive. After the ship broke apart, Antoninus pleaded with his father not to kill the prisoners under Roman guard. He later gave his life to Christ while Paul remained under house arrest in Rome. When Emperor Nero blamed Christians for the city's fire, Antoninus joined his father in helping believers escape persecution. Curious, compassionate, and brave, he allowed Paul's faith to change both his loyalty and his understanding of strength.
